The Pros and Cons of Technology in our Lives
Technology
Pros and Cons
Technology has affected our lives in
both good and bad ways. Through technology we have advanced our medical field,
our educational field, and have changed the ways that families live in general.
Technology is a very controversial topic with many because of all the life
changes that have occurred because of it.
Through the many advances in
technology it is has changed our way of medicine in a big way. There have been
some remarkable things happen in the world of medicine through technology. Some
of those things are like 3D ultrasounds so that we can see babies and other
things. Another advancement has been cameras and other sources that we can use
to go inside our bodies to see any medical issues that are presented. Through
technology they have also been able to do more vaccination research and produce
artificial joints such as knees and shoulders. I believe that these are some of
the best ways that technology has changed our world. However, I believe that in
some way’s technology is evolving too much in the medical field. I think that
they can make great progress, but I think that we need to slow down and not
rush anything. The medical field is not the only area in our lives that has
been affected by technology.
Our education system has been
changed so much by technology. Classrooms use, to be a chalkboard and a pencil
and paper. Nowadays most schools have a smartboard, instead of a chalkboard,
and in some districts all the students have tablets to do their homework on.
When I was in school, we had computers in a lab that we could use, and then we
also had a smartboard. Our computers were mostly used for the research papers
that we would do or for our MAPS testing. I still remember hating the testing
that was done on the computer because it was so much harder for me to focus and
it gave me a headache after a while. This is one of the biggest reasons that I
believe that we should be doing more on paper and pencil. In my opinion,
students need to be able to write on paper instead because for some students
they may have problems like I did with the screens. I feel like this is giving
them an unfair advantage in the classroom. Technology has benefited our
classrooms in good ways too. Through technology teachers are now able to communicate
with one another faster and share their neat ideas of teaching something. They
are also able to display learning games for the children to use in their free
time. Technology has also helped us accommodate learning for students more.
Through technology teachers have been able to make learning fun and more
hands-on. Education has seen both good things and bad things that have been
associated with technology.
Finally, technology has affected our
home life in many ways. In my opinion, most of these ways have been very
negative. To start I believe that just like in video technology has affected
the activities that children now days do. Like in the video, the older
generation had so many stories of what they did outside and what skills that they
learned from those. Then when it showed the younger generations all they talked
about was how much the children played on their tablets and video games. This
part of the video saddens me. I think that the skills that were passed down
from generation to generation are being demolished because of the technology
and the busy lives that our families now have. Now I am not saying that I do
not believe that technology is bad because I think that it can be great in some
areas. Also, I believe that there are still several kids that play outside and
learn skills from their older family members from helping them. I just believe
that their needs to be more of this play and less of technology at home.
Lastly, I think that it needs to get back to taking time at the dinner table
talking about your day and the events that happened. I think that it does a
great amount of good for a child to have this time with their family. Overall,
technology has affected our home life a lot.
Great post Brianna! I really enjoyed reading your thoughts on technology. I agree that technology has affected us in so many ways. I think it is amazing all the advances people have made in the medical field. I do agree that we do need to slow down though especially after reading the article yesterday. I think all of the technology is great in the classroom, but I still like to do things on paper as well. That part of the video saddened me too. As a mom I try hard to not let technology take over my kids lives. I believe kids need to play outside and learn skills. My son loves to help my dad with different projects. I agree that it is good for children to sit and have conversations with their family.
ReplyDeleteI love how in depth you went with your post! I think I got so caught up in the fact that technology takes physical things away from kids and adults, I lost focus on what it dose to help in the classroom. Its amazing how many resources are out there for a teacher struggling to teach a child. There are most defiantly things technology has helped as far as being able to teach kids in different ways. I whole heartedly agree with you and the video on the fact that family time has become a lost treasure. I have never let my kiddo have a device at the table either home or in a restaurant and I am still so thankful that was a rule I started!
ReplyDeleteIn this crazy world that we live in, I think that it is very important not to get lost in technology. Loneliness, short tempered, vision impaired, lack of fine motor skills and the list can go on and on, are just some of the damages that our kids are suffering one way or another. I am not against technology at all, do not take me wrong but kids have to have time limit when electronic devices are being used. As a parent, it is very easy to just give our kids something to be busy with or out of our ways without thinking all the emotional, physical and mental damage that we are helping create.
ReplyDeleteAs a future teacher, I see the importance of our positive constructive input toward technology and the time that we should give our students when using it. At the end we are the responsible adults in charge in the classroom.
I don't feel that technology advancements should be slowed in the medical field per say. I believe that they should be focused more on cancer and uncurrable disease cures. I also believe that advancements in external fetus growth should be done in order to be a safe gate for women that risk their lives through pregnancy, but won't have to choose their life or their baby's. Technology is all in the eyes of the beholder. Yes, I still agree that there are some advancements that are extremely unnecessary, but there are some that aren't necessary enough.
ReplyDeleteI totally agree with you. Technology in education has taken a huge leap in a positive direction. I remember when we first started using smart boards in class. To me, I was able to learn information faster because it was all hands on. I do also agree with you on technology being a negative in households. Kids today are way less active then what they use to be and this has affected them in many different categories. They do not know how to hold a face-to-face conversation anymore. They are becoming socially awkward because they are use to talking to people over video games or cell phones.
ReplyDeleteLove when you talk about the traditional way of pencil and paper--we need to think of how each individual learn in the different way though we are in the technology era! I have the great concern regarding the technology use in the new generation. It has affected people's cognitive and emotional state as people indulged in the online world. Many syndromes and names have been "invented" due to the technology addict which lead to the foreseen chaos in human behaviors. As I enjoy the great convenience of technology, I am concerned more that will human be "eradicated " by technology? Love your post, Brianna!
